Prominent Canadian entrepreneur, surgeon, scientist and professor Cameron Clokie has made the most of his nearly 30 years of know-how and skill in the scientific and medical worlds.
After Clokie graduated as a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the McGill University in Montreal, he went on to earn a doctorate in philosophy with a focus on bone generation.
He has taken part in scholarly dentistry and as a publisher has made public numerous articles and writings to communicate information to a worldwide audience.
At the start of his career, Clokie founded a research group at the McGill University which focused on oral and maxillofacial surgery. He also demonstrated a profound interest in regenerative medicine.
As part of his work at the university, Clokie pioneered a technique in the advancement of new bone regenerative high technology and facial restoration.
According to Crunchbase, Clokie’s treatment, which transformed the future of reconstructive surgery, involved protein that changed adult stem cells into bone tissue. One patient, who was diagnosed with a benign tumor on the jaw, has the power to continue growth of the centimeters of the jaw bone he had lost. Clokie’s technique, which has made a significant impression, is said to be a breakthrough in regenerative medicine.
He is currently the chief executive officer of Induce Biologics, which focuses on musculoskeletal reconstruction and advancing bioimplants for bone regeneration.
The company’s lead product candidate, URIST, is an original implant which includes bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) and a proprietary carrier that makes a moderate delivery of BMP available permitting a reduced amount of BMP in contrast to products that exist today.
He also carries on an active clinical practice in oral and maxillofacial surgery based in Toronto.
Clokie, who has served on a number of company boards, retired earlier this year from his livelihood as a professor at the university where he taught. He is the holder of 25 patents for his laboratory work and has lectured worldwide with regard to bone regeneration, oral and maxillofacial surgery and more.
